FoxTab Music Converter is an audio conversion utility. It supports converting from and to the most popular formats, like MP3, OGG, WAV, AIFF and so on. It uses the FFmpeg library to process conversions, which is both an advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage is that this way the application can be free. The disadvantage is that FFmpeg has some minor drawbacks. For example, when converting from MP3 to WAV, the sound is “squashed” a little bit and it loses its richness.
The colors of the interface are well-picked but some minor glitches ruin the overall aspect. Here’s just a short list: the white corners, the empty space around the Start button and a right panel that seems to have no function.
The utility supports batch conversions. Unfortunately, a major functionality problem makes this advantage fade away. There is a button in the interface to add a whole folder to the batch job but the action has no result.
In conclusion, this application works well if you want to convert just a few audio files and you’re satisfied with better than average sound quality. The graphical glitches don’t impact the utility’s performance in any way but the disability to add entire folders to the job is a major drawback for users that need to convert hundreds of files. The only workaround is to manually add one file at a time.
